and make sure the base textures have the correct format by using other tutorials

They have normal maps and the formats are right. This is strange but these models work perfectly on my computer, the problem occurs only on my friends comp.

I don't know if it's the same bug, but after installing some hi-res body textures, i've occasionally seen black skins on random enemies. This happened only after playing for several hours without restarting the game.

Possible solution: remove hi-res textures, or get better video card.
Temporary solution: restart game, black textures should be gone but it might happen again after a while.

Problem isn't gone even after restarting the game. My friend has vanilla body textures, not hi-res ones.

Well, you said the armor textures are black. Does the armor have hi-res textures? The author may have provided lo-res textures.

Does your friend use any gfx-enhancing mods/tools?

He could try tweaking some skyrim.ini settings if reducing the texture quality via launcher options doesnt solve it. I can't help here though, i never tried to tweak my ini files.

Maybe your friend really needs a better video card. Posting his PC's specs might help. Like mentioned before, i had this bug only after very long gaming sessions, several other players told me they had similar experiences. Could be a full video memory or the card was too hot. Just restarting the game might not cool down the card enough...

But it may as well be just another bug that some people get, and some don't.... You know how unreliable Beth games are.

My friend isnt using any gfx-enhancing mods. One of the missing textures resolution is 512x512. His textures are set to medium quality, setting them on very low quality isnt fixing the problem. Its strange but same textures are missing all the time (2nd screenshot bikini top is missing every time).

Yeah his PC specs are pretty low but it can handle vanilla skyrim without problem.

    Heyo everyone,

I have this issue as well. I think it has to do with a corrupted save file. I've only had this issue with HQ 4096 res textures as well. I have a bad feeling that the 4gig patch that bethesda released, isn't as good as the mod one. Either case, the only way i've fixed the black texture was to make a new save, and reload.

In fact if you have the item in your inventory, make sure to remove it. I did the old removeallitems on my character, saved the game, and reloaded. Then when I readded the items, they showed up properly. The oddest part, is this could happen between zones aka different areas. So it could be in fact like you guys above said, where as the vid card couldn't handle all the textures at once. As in the entire scenery, your character, npcs, and the modded items.

It could also be some issue with direct x, wouldn't shock me on that either. I had a massive issue with direct x with Dragon age 2, that I had to mod an inf file to fix. Let me know what else you find Fearil, cause it could also help me in the future with any issues lol.

Hey mate, if that's a custom mesh, go into the mesh with nifskope and look at the nitrishapedata for a particular part of the armour that appears black. Search for a flag saying "Has Vertex Colours". If this is set to "no", change it to "yes" by simply double clicking on it, save and see if that works. A lot of black textures are caused by that issue.

Check to see if the textures are saved with mipmaps, if they aren't re-save them with mipmaps.

Your problem is definetly that the texture author didn't save with mipmaps, because I had the same issue.

Mipmaps are important because it saves the game from loading your textures at full size for every instant. When something is really far away the game shouldn't be loading the full size texture, it should be loading one of the mipmaps that should be saved in the texture. This reduces the amount of work the game has to do. Black textures appearing tends to be where the game / your gpu / your cpu is telling you it has too much to handle at once, and it has to let information not render properly so it doesn't crash.

It's definitly a mesh problem. I've tried re-exporting working, textured mesh with 3ds max and it was black in-game.

The mod i was talking about is my own, and i always save mip-maps. So it can't be a missing mip-map issue.

Btw, i have not experienced this bug lately, maybe because my gaming sessions were rather short, 2 hrs maximum.
